From the President to hollywood directors: The World Mourns for Irrfan Khan

Today, the world mourns the demise of one of the greatest gems born out of Indian Cinema. How did little Irfan, who was so interested in cricket and born in a middle class Rajasthani family, rose to become the star of bollywood is still a story of inspiration and courage.

Having starred in many record-breaking world box office movies like the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, The Amazing Spider Man, Life of Pi, Jurassic World and Inferno and films grossing at over $3.64 Billion at the worldwide box office, Irrfan Khan has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award by President Pratibha Patil in 2011.

“Irrfan Khan’s demise is a loss to the world of cinema and theatre. He will be remembered for his versatile performances across different mediums. My thoughts are with his family, friends and admirers. May his soul rest in peace”, tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Expressing his grief, President Of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind also wrote “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Irrfan Khan. A rare talent and a brilliant actor, his diverse roles and remarkable performances will remain etched in our memories. A big loss to the world of cinema and millions of film lovers. Condolences to his family and admirers.”

Indeed, bollywood has suffered an irreparable loss and condolences are pouring in from all over the world.  ‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow took to twitter and expressed his grief over Irrfan’s death. “Deeply sad to have lost #IrrfanKhan. A thoughtful man who found beauty in the world around him, even in pain. In our last correspondence, he asked me to remember “the wonderful aspects of our existence in the darkest of days. Here he is, laughing.

American Filmmaker Ava DuVernay also paid tribute to the late actor. “A grateful fan of #IrrfanKhan here. Gone too soon. When he is on screen, you can’t take your eyes off him. He lives on in his films.”

Indeed, it couldn’t have been more precise. The charm and emotions he brought out in his acting couldn’t let anyone take eyes off him on the screen. Last seen in his film Angrezi Medium, his skills would live beyond times, and leaves a legacy unchallenged.

“just getting news of the passing of Irfaan Khan .. this is a most disturbing and sad news .. An incredible talent .. a gracious colleague .. a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema .. left us too soon .. creating a huge vacuum .. Prayers and duas”: tweeted the megastar Amitabh Bachhan.

With tears in his eyes and posting a video, Anupam Kher wrote: ” Nothing can be more heartbreaking and tragic than the news of passing away of a dear friend, one of the finest actors and a wonderful human being #IrrfanKhan. Saddest day!! May his soul rest in peace. #OmShanti”.

Being himself recovered from cancer, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh tweeted: “I know the journey I know the pain and I know he fought till the end some are lucky to survive some don’t I’m sure you are in a better place now Irfan Khan my condolence to your family. May his soul RIP.”

Calling Irrfan Khan “a beloved international face of Indian cinema, French ambassador to India, Emmanuel Lenain mourned his untimely demise.

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan also wrote: “Heartbroken to hear about Irrfan’s untimely demise. It’s an irreparable loss for Indian cinema. Deepest condolences to his wife & sons. RIP Irrfan.”
