India Draws with Asian Champions, Qatar in the FIFA Qualifiers 2022

The Indian Football team put out a fighting performance against the strong Qatar side after a disappointing defeat at the hands of Oman in the FIFA Qualifiers 2022.

India came out with a crucial away point after drawing to the Asian Champions Qatar in the Fifa Qualifiers 2022 on Tuesday.

Qatar on their home turf is a very tough side to compete but an all-round performance from the Indian squad lead by their captain and Goal-keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu managed to hold off the Qatar attack in Doha.

Following a heartbreaking loss against Oman in Guwahati, the draw against Qatar earns team India, a crucial away point. While Qatar still leading the charts with 4 points, India is now placed at the fourth spot in Group E.

“Everyone played their hearts out, and gave everything out on the pitch.” Gurpreet Singh Sandhu said after the match.

There was immense support for the Blue Tigers away from home. The city of Doha saw a huge turn out of Indian fans coming out to cheer their side. After a historic performance the team and the fans together celebrated with the Viking Claps.

The inspirational Team Captain and talisman Sunil Chhetri(@chetrisunil11) who  was out injured tweeted, “Dear India, THAT is my team and THOSE are my boys! Cannot describe how proud I am at this moment. Not a big result for the table, but in terms of a fight, as big as it can get. Huge credit to the coaching staff and the dressing room. #QATIND”

India will now host Bangladesh in their next match of the qualifiers on October 15.
