President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused China of mishandling the Coronavirus in an attempt to make him lose 2020 presidential elections to be held in November. Since the outbreak, many officials have often blamed them for the lack of transparency and not taking required actions to contain the outbreak within China.
Trump has time and again referred Coronavirus as Chinese virus, which Beijing has continuously asked them not to. China have denied all these accusations and have replied to various statements made by US officials by saying that US is shifting all the blame on China to cover their mishandling of the Coronavirus. China and US were in a trade war before the Coronavirus struck the world which increased tariffs to very high levels.
In an interview with the Reuters, President Trump said “China will do anything they can to have me lose this race,” He added that he is will take actions against China but didn’t go into specifics. “There are many things I can do, we are looking for what happened.” He said.
On Thursday, Intelligence agencies in the US concluded that the virus was not man-made, adding that further investigation are still going on. “The Intelligence Community also concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not man-made or genetically modified,” said the statement. “The IC will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”
This statement by the Intelligence Community was issued on the same day when it was reported that Trump is trying to pressure agencies to give results against China and connect the virus with their labs. Trump in his briefings and interviews, has often accused China of producing the virus in their labs and then mishandling the information related to it. China have termed these accusations as baseless and have denied all the charges.
US has reported over 1.08 million Coronavirus cases with over 62,000 deaths and 127,000 recoveries. US has maximum Coronavirus cases and deaths followed by Spain and Italy.
